Creating A Workspace That Inspires Productivity And Creativity
What is a workspace? Well, although it might feel as though it’s just your desk and chair (primarily if you work at home and you don’t want your work interfering with the rest of your life and home), the fact is that it’s the entire environment. Get it right, and it’s a place where you can be creative and get loads of ideas, meet your goals, and be highly productive, helping you stay motivated and successful. Get it wrong, and… well, the opposite is true.
The point is that setting everything up and using your workspace will affect your ability to stay inspired and focused. Keep reading to learn how to create a workspace that encourages productivity and creativity.
Prioritize Comfort
There’s absolutely no way you can be productive if you’re uncomfortable, which is why it’s so important to invest in whatever it is you need to ensure that doesn’t happen. Start with a good chair that supports your posture, and then you’ll need a desk at the right height so you’re not slouching all the time. That’s going to help. And what about some other accessories like wrist supports or maybe even a standing desk if you like to move around during the day? It will all help, so start digging into what you can get.
Lighting is another factor to consider, and it can play a big part in creating the right work environment. Natural light works wonders for your mood and energy levels, so try to put your desk near a window if possible. If natural light isn’t an option, choose warm, adjustable lighting to reduce eye strain. Even that’s sure to help.
Declutter Your Space
A cluttered workspace can lead to a disorganized (and uninspired) mind, and if you think that’s just a cliche, you’re wrong - it’s been scientifically proven. That’s why you need to keep your desk as organized as possible with simple storage solutions like drawers, drawer dividers (for even more space), and shelving. If you’re short on space in general, portable storage containers can be a lifesaver when storing stuff you don’t need right now but will need in the future, like files or extra equipment example.
Don’t worry that decluttering means you’ve got to go minimalist. You can’t have all your favorite things around you - that wouldn’t be good at all, and it might even make you less productive because you’ll be less comfortable - but you need to create a space with as few distractions as possible.
Add A Personal Touch
Following the idea above, your workspace should reflect you if it will be a productive place. Incorporate personal items like photos, artwork, plants, or whatever else you want and need to make it feel inviting and comfortable.
Just remember not to overwhelm or overfill the space, or you’ll be undoing the good you did when you decluttered!
